There is no freedom around this game....if people are going to moan about cheating all the time then why not put a mandatory price and fair trade policy on everything and just GO AHEAD AND RUIN THIS GREAT GAME COMPLETELY...We all play slightly different and to be accused of cheating when in effect its part of a bigger plan... ridiculous...its impossible to CHEAT at this game....See anyone wth a galactic magnate bot lately?...lol....this game is for the players...not for mods to be poking their noses in all the time and saying ...well yes selling the third blue for 200 plus exchanging a white....blah blah blah.....Its a personal choice on what we auction...what we bid and what and how we trade.....Mods need to deal with real issues like the stability of the game..... |

Post subject: 3rd green auction real cheap |
|
|
If a player...ie JOTTA auctions the 3rd green and effectively gives that player the 3rd green for 800.....because he has no more money to bid....hoping that someone else will keep bidding....to get his 20%,,,but no one bids more....are the players who could of bid more to stop the sale of the 3rd green but didn't,,,are they cheating....? or should a player bid on a third green when effectively they are broke and relying on a third party to spend all their hard earned cash to secure that third green,,,,,mmmmm....that's why I say you cant moniter cheating or impose on someone that they are cheating when all players involved sit back and let the 3rd green go for so cheap....I will not be posting about cheating or anything else for that matter....anyone who wants to accuse me of cheating will be /m |

This is very simple, it depends on whether it's in the other players' interest to bid, ie: likely to improve their final ranking.
If a player was comfortably in first place with a pile of cash, but would probably fall to second with green in a competitor's hands, then the rules would say that that player should bid up until the point where the expected cost of bidding outweighs the expected benefit.
That comes down to their judgement, but even the most conservative player would have to, according to the rules as they were originaly written, bid up to the point where there was some risk of them falling lower than second, and could stop just shy of that point.
In other words, they couldn't decide not to bid just to punish jotta, if in doing so they clearly fell from 1st to second.
Unfortunately, the rule that states you need to make a mutually beneficial trade (again in terms of your end-ranking) if doing so is possible is rarely or never enforced.
This means that someone like jotta or ceasar, who cannot or will not trade, does not get punished, and so players (like the OP, I'm guessing) feel the desire to punish them in other ways, for example by refusing to bid just to spite them.
It's messed up but a consequence of partial implementation of the rules, something that has occured on GM since as long as anyone can remember. |

To put things another way - jotta has a right to expect other players to act in their own interests, and so is entitled to open it if other players could reasonably be expected to bid.
But other players should also have a right to expect jotta to behave in his own interests, by accepting trades that are mutually beneficial, or trying to find such trades. He's a nightmare to trade with.
Both these implications of the rules should be upheld.
As always, players and mods should make reference to the original rules whenever in doubt, to avoid straying too far off course and making mistakes.

A bad trade does not mean a cheat trade. New players, and oftentimes pros, can make trades which they believe to be advantageous to themselves and the other party, but end up harming them, themselves, or both parties involved.
Case by case basises are used to determine each and every cheat trade report. Punishment is only delivered if the trade can be determined as blatantly advantageous to one party and disadvantageous to the other.
Moreover, the chat, if any, is often the most damning evidence. |
