Still can't connect.

Since I never connected to the server through the game I can't have an account.

I also can't be banned...... because I don't have an account.

No firewall.

Is it usual to receive an update message when you don't need one and don't have an account?

if you are a new player, and receiving that message it is either because :-

a) everyone gets assisgned a random Comp ID when they log onto GM, and sometimes they can paired with other peoples computers, if that other person is banned you will be banned too, because of similar ip address.

b) theres a bug and i dont have a clue how to get around it to be perfectly honest, everyone else gets on ok, so im thinking its either the 1st option , or you are a player that is banned trying to bypass a ban

I have often had a update message when the game isn't connecting to the server, normally if the server is down (which it isn't far as I know), or if my Internet connection has dropped.

Windows has a firewall (can be found from the control panel) possibly this is blocking it.

Also double check your PC has the system requirements needed for it to run, don't know if this is likely but running out of ideas.

I'm running an old version of windows, 98, is that a problem?

I'm also on dial up. It's all that's available here, and I know my connection is slow.

jersey, your 56k connection is the minimum requirement, but the game will run fine on that setting as it was designed to be efficient on that ,
maybe windows 98 is causing a conflict with the game too, ive not heard of anyone else still trying to run 98 on gm.
