I was playing as doboy14 in a 4p with baltimore, pure_luck, and david19.
late in the game, start -300 or so, pure has it locked with greens and 3 white
the other three of us have about the same cash around 1500
pure pays david19 1000 for purple.
I had more rent than david, and likely would have taken 2nd
ended up 1 pure 2 david 3 doboy 4 baltimore
I lost about 1200 points.

Note: after the late trade I tried to save it and barely missed 2nd. Still, the 1000 for purple trade was unfair. It didn't improve pure's position.

The trade for purple was not a cheat trade. Start was at -200. David had over double the credit you did and almost double cash. This benefited him to make the trade for cash to be able to survive greens longer. It benefited pureluck as 1st place is never in the bag and it gave him the two purple he needed to make a set and they had cash to build. You barely missed second which means pure would not of made second without trade.

Perhaps you think Pure_luck didn't have enough advantage to have 1st in the bag in this case, but of course 1st place can be in the bag with enough rent and cash. Pure had pink blocked. Nothing else substantial would have changed.

You point out david would not have had 2nd without the trade. My late maneuvoring would also have not happened. Clearly david improved his position in the trade. My point is that Pure did not. He was too far in front and faced no credible threat. At that point, any trade he made is arguably dodgy. Even bidding in an auction is dodgy.
