I see 2:1 against me, so I'll tell you why only on collapse should this change -

Jail is a normal feature NOT a "big bonus" before collapse-
Before collapse, you might lose a few moves or if u got it right after start, you might even benefit you a few steps, since it is 3/4 the way from start and start is still positive.
Reason? "pay 200" doesn't need a reason, so jail is a small luck feature before collapse.

After collapse, this is like a "get 1000 and others lose 1000" card. Perhaps 500. Otherwise it wouldn't have bothered us.
This is just a too heavy luck element when luck shouldn't play such a big role.

I think making it 2 turns will balance it to affect less on the game, but this should only done when this feature becomes a problem - after collapse.

booga... this is why I think jail should be 2 turns only...

In the beginning landing on jail especially when passing go is like 270 - 300... it can have a reasonable impact on your cash vs your opponents due to luck...especially when your opponent is rolling doubles while you're in jail... my vote is for 2 regardless...

i think its just another luck feature but it is the same with bonus.

You cant say u dont get lucky with jail some time or another as it is there to help a opponent. maybe somwtimes it wont go your way but think of it as a scale its balanced out the previous games.

(i did not vote for this reason)

jail is not like bonus at all -
bonus gives money to ALL nomatter who lands on it.
Jail is a huge reward for the player landing after collapse

itmight not be like it but it is still lucky.

when u buy a set and u need cash to get a out of debt bonus is there and it helps.

and if im low on cash id rather pass go and get a bonus than jail

My point still holds.
binus is a feature that is designed to get money in the game - more or less is luck - but both players get it each time.
Jail is only luck and a huge factor in luck.

Jail right now is "3 more turns", not 3 turns... so it is actually 4 if you count your opponents turn... I think the first thing that needs to be done is, it should be 3 turns only... and then we should think about making it 2 turns..

I agree with NiceGuy.

But still, prison in recesion is a goos thing in recession. It's a chance 4 players that really neeed it. And chance (or should we call it "luck") should be part of the game.

My opinion. Wink

i think left as as, you have to take the good with the bad, by changing to a 3 then 2 just makes prison allround a bad experience, if that is the case maybe stop trading and collecting payments while there, then good=not landing on anyone + bad not collecting anything

New version reflection on jail issue :

The prison change killed jail luck, but it introduced another problem - monopolies are less effective and therefore the prices are lowered IMHO.
When you buy a monopoly, you know that the others wil also land on it while you are in prison, paying you nothing, so instead of getting payment 41-42% of others' rounds (for a 3-tile monopoly), we'll get less hits, perhaps 30-35%.

I think this secondary effect was not considered, and although it IS MUCH BETTER than just 3 turns in jail, it would perhaps be better to revert to the old way, but with 2 turns in jail Smile

Think about jail from everyone else's point of view.
If I'm playing against a player with 2-3 fully upgraded monopolies, and they land in jail, that's a free trip for ME to get around the board past their properties.
So, in a 2P game, it's 50/50 who shares the effect, but in a 3-5p game, the guy in jail is benefitting everyone ELSE for 3 turns.
I think it should be 2 turns because it helps everyone else so much and hurts you at the same time.
Let's say it's a 4p game and you have the greens and light blues fully upgraded. If you get landed on 2x green and 3x light blue, that's 1600 in missed revenue that in no way is compensated by not paying one round of EC start money.
That's a 3200 swing in cash to the rest of the players out of my bank account.

I think that three doubles, landing on it AND getting a go to prison chance makes it somewhat crippling and makes the greens so much more valuable, since there's a very high chance that everyone coming out of jail hits your green (higher than any other monopoly on the board).

Just my $0.02 on the jail issue,
MadMACS
