There used to be a common rumour that you loose more points if you resign instead of playing it till the end.

The opposite is true. You win more points if you resign games you cannot win anymore. The reason for this is simple: if you play 2 hours GM on a day, you will be able to play more games if you resign the hopeless ones.

And more games always means more points in the long run.

1.i get into game where i will win petty points coz of a newbie sneaking in
2.when i have some emergency while playing the game
3.when i am sure i cannot improve my rank

omg ive had that argument sooo many times. where the bf at the moment threatens to turn off the comp or take the charger out of thewall,, while im winning. or say, if you don't get off, i'll go sleep on couch. lol. so ,, to answer popov, thats how you are forced to resign.
